What You Need To Create A Hanging Terrariums

If you want to decorate your place, and add a little bit of life to it, a hanging terrarium is a great way to do so. They look really great, add a splash of color to your space, and are easy to take care of. You can even make your own hanging terrarium if you want, or you can purchase a ready-made terrarium at your local florist or garden store.

Collect the Supplies

First, you need to collect all of the supplies that you will need to make your terrarium. To house the terrarium, you are going to need a glass globe, preferable on that you can hang out.

To create the base of the terrarium, you are going to need sand, activated charcoal, and potting soil.

To fill up the terrarium, you are going to want to collect moss, bark, small sticks, shells, stones, succulents, and air plants.

To take care of your terrarium, you will need a spray bottle to water the plant life that you put inside of it.

Creating the Base

You are going to want to create a base layer in your terrarium that will support the plant life that you add to the terrarium. Use a funnel or small scooper to add a layer of sand to the bottom of the terrarium.

Then, put a layer of activated charcoal on the bottom of your terrarium. The activated charcoal will help keep your terrarium looking and smelling fresh. Then, add an inch or so of potting soil to the terrarium. Use a spoon or a paint brush to move around the dirt.

Add the Big Features

Next, it is time to put the big, eye catching items into your terrarium. This is when you should put in any small plants or succulents that you have purchased for your terrarium. Make sure that they are well positioning in the soil and that their roots are covered with dirt. You may be working with a small space, but be sure to leave space around each item. You only need one or two large items in your terrarium.

Add the Small Features

Then, add the small features. You may want to use tweezers to hold and move around the small features. Put some moss across the bottom of the space, under the plant life. Add one or two rocks with character. This is where you can also add little sticks. pieces of bark, or shells to the space. Add some elements that will give your terrarium its own unique character.

Finally, once you have created or purchase your terrarium, hang it up inside of your home, preferably somewhere where it will get a little bit of natural sunlight. Use a spray bottle to water the plants as needed.
